Andrew B. Wachler Educates Long-Term Care Industry on 'MICs, MACs and RACs' at AHCA/NCAL Annual Convention

Wachler, along with Mark Reagan, an attorney with Hooper, Lundy & Bookman, San Francisco, presented "MICs, MACs and RACs: Emerging Issues and Appeal Strategies" at the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living Annual Convention & Expo, Sept. 18-21 in Las Vegas. The presentation also covered Zone Program Integrity Contractors (ZPICs). Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs) are government contractors paid on a contingency basis to recover Medicare overpayments to health care providers and to identify underpayments. Medicaid Integrity Program contractors perform a similar role in relation to the Medicaid program. Medicare Administrative Contractors process Medicare claims. ZPICs are fraud investigators who also conduct post-payment audits for Medicare.

The AHCA is a non-profit federation of affiliated state health organizations, together representing more than 11,000 non-profit and for-profit nursing facility, assisted living, developmentally-disabled, and sub-acute care providers that care for approximately one million elderly and disabled individuals each day.
