Alexandra Chase is a devoted clinical psychologist and acclaimed author

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, December 8, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Alexandra N. Chase, Clinical Director for Westside Community Services, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in clinical psychology.

A licensed clinical psychologist with more than a decade of professional experience, Dr. Chase specializes in clinical supervision and administrative oversight. Known for her healthy and effective management philosophy, she excels in mentoring and training clinicians, driving program development, and providing containment and support during times of agency transition or instability. She also makes it a priority to advocate for and participate in implementing positive change.

For the past decade, Dr. Chase has applied her skills in the role of clinical supervisor for Westside Community Services, a nonprofit organization that offers a wide range of mental health counseling and social services. Her position entails providing clinical supervision and identifying training needs and resources. She provides brief didactics on various clinical issues, addresses ethical, legal and clinically difficult issues, and facilitates change in management philosophy to improve staff morale and rentention, as well as efficiency and productivity. In September 2011, Dr. Chase was promoted to division clinical director, in recognition of her contributions to the agency. This enhanced position allows her time to mentor clinicians as clinical supervisors, participate with them in creating and implementing a "clinical thinking" training curriculum, to focus more on agency-wide clinical and management issues, and to take a more active leadership role. Dr. Chase attributes her success in this role to having excellent mentors and growing up in an intellectual family.

In 2001, Dr. Chase earned a Psy.D. from the California Institute of Integral Studies; her dissertation was entitled "A Control Mastery Application to Treating Chronic Depressive Disorders." Previously, she earned a master's degree in creative writing and a Bachelor of Arts in sociology, both from San Francisco State University. She was honored as an outstanding graduating student in the school's sociology department in 1981. Today, Dr. Chase is a licensed clinical psychologist in the states of California and Rhode Island. She has taught at both San Francisco State and San Francisco City College.

Moreover, Dr. Chase is an avid writer; her poems have been published internationally. She authored a book of poems, "The Beginning of Difficulty," which was published by Five Fingers Press in 1989. The book was nominated for a literary prize by the Los Angeles Times and was praised by poet Robert Creeley as "a primary book of passage by a very gifted poet." In 1990, in addition to having her book named Small Press Review's "Pick of the Month," she participated in a contemporary arts festival in Moscow, where her poetry was very well received. Dr. Chase is also an active member of a women's dream group, which informs her self-awareness and writing projects. In the years to come, she looks forward to combining all of her interests and experiences in future projects; she plans to use her management, supervisory and clinical skills in various venues, including psychological and management consulting, editing and writing.
