Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs) are government contractors paid on a contingency basis to recover Medicare overpayments to health care providers and to identify underpayments. Medicaid Integrity Program contractors MICs perform a similar role in relation to the Medicaid program. Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) process Medicare claims. Zone Program Integrity Contractors (ZPICs) are fraud investigators who also conduct post-payment audits for Medicare.

Originated in 1948, the Health Care Association of Michigan (HCAM) is a professional association representing nursing and rehabilitation communities including for and not for profit, county medical care and hospital based providers. HCAM currently represents 259 nursing facilities. The association helps members with reimbursement and regulation issues, among other services. In 1999, HCAM created the Michigan Center for Assisted Living (MCAL). MCAL is a division of the association that serves assisted living homes including homes for the aged, adult foster care, housing with services and other senior living housing options. Its growth continues and now represents more than 100 campuses throughout the state.
